31.8.13

243/365 Girls Day.

Girls day at the mall for Team Schlatter, along with cousins Rachel and Clara and Aunt Amy too! I'm afraid we might be sounding like our moms with our children worries, aches and pains, and thinking time is going too fast :)

242/365 Jump Ropes.

Team Schlatter is down to 3 days before leaving for Haiti for trip #4, just mom and Dad this round. What a blessing to see it come together as it always does in HIS perfect timing. Found 1/2 price jump ropes, on sale again, and grabbed all they had at 25 cents each!

29.8.13

241/365 Thirteen.

I am officially a proud momma of a teenager!

240/365 Pocket Quilt.

Team Schlatter has been exploring the pioneer times through the eyes of Laura Engels Wilder and her books.  Ben is working hard on a pocket quilt, recycling old favorite pairs of shorts of his for the squares.

27.8.13

239/365 WWE.

Team Schlatter was lucky today, yet another reason waiting on Dr. Iles is not a bad thing, I won WWE Monday Night Raw tickets from our local radio station KCII while in the waiting room!  Ben and David get to go together, it will be a great kick-off to Ben's birthday month.

26.8.13

238/365 Sweet Corn.

Team Schlatter started the 2013 school year again, this year exploring the pioneer days.  What a coincidence we got to prepare some fresh sweet corn for the freezer, what a blessing it will be when winter comes around.  Very thankful for my wonderful mother-in-law who picked the corn for us, as well as helping me in the kitchen.

25.8.13

237/365 Goodbye Summer.

Team Schlatter is sad to see the summer of 2013 come to an end.

236/365 Banana.

Zach, Ben and the Jamacian banana.  They brought home some amazing prizes from the ISF carnival :)

235/365 Big Bug.

This big bug was captured by Zach at our Thursday visit with grandma Vivian.

24.8.13

234/365 Tough Love.

Today was the day that Team Schlatter had to give a little tough love to our little Walker. We shaved him down to see what and where all his "ouchies" where, and treated him from head to toe! He is our little champion, he was such a trooper.

23.8.13

233/365 Annie's Husband.

Farm kid humor, "Hey Ben we picked up Annie's (our cow) husband in mom's car today!"  Today's homeschooling lesson: CID R's, artificial insemination, and semen tanks, bet they didn't learn that at public school :)

22.8.13

232/365 Caricature.

Ben's one request of the Iowa State Fair this year was to get a caricature of himself done.  The artist was amazing and let me take a video for Ben to see when he was finished.

20.8.13

231/365 Forty.

On the 15th during the fair this wonderful husband and dad turned 40.  What a blessing to be married to a man that is not afraid to try new things!  When we met he wasn't a sheep or cattle man, I witnessed him washing, trimming, and fitting all week long -- I am blessed and so are his children.

230/365 Queen.

Briana-Sue and the 2013 Iowa State Fair Queen, Kelsey Smith.  She was representing Henry county this year.  She was so sweet to wave and speak out to Briana-Sue (remembering her from the county fair) as we were walking down the hill one afternoon.

229/365 Heaven.

Is this heaven, no it's day 7 of the Iowa State Fair -- open cattle show day.  Helping friends with their Shorthorn cattle, and picking out next years project!  Briana-Sue and Loyd's Foxy Ava (calf pictured above) had their first chance to hit the showring together.  Think it's the first of many!

228/365 Sale Day.

Day 6 of the Iowa State Fair is show and sale for Schmitz Farms.  Our crew took 8 ewe lambs and 2 rams.  Briana-Sue and Clara got to sell their first ewe lamb from S-Squared also!

227/365 Ribbons.

This is the ribbon that started the challenge for Ben -- find all 50 ribbon statues at the Iowa State Fair!
He did really great he found 48 of the 50.

226/365 Goodbye.

Day 4 of Iowa State Fair, sad day, Charlie was loaded on the sale truck.  Lots of tears by all.

225/365 Beef Of Merit.

...evening Beef of Merit class with Charlie.  Pretty sure from the first foot step in the large pavilion she was in heaven.

224/365 Ewe Lambs.

Iowa State Fair Day 3 ~ Commerical Ewes in the morning...

223/365 Jack.

Iowa State Fair ~ Day 2 Market Lambs.  Long day from 7:30am to 9:30pm.
Photo is of Briana-Sue and her speckle lamb Jack.

222/365 Showmanship.

Iowa State Fair Day 1 ~ Sheep Showmanship

221/365 Shear Day.

Clara caught me in the act of helping in the sheep barn.  So much fun getting to help shear the lambs for show day!

9.8.13

220/365 Preparation.

Team Schlatter is already looking to the 2014 show year!  Always a good sign to see the ewes marked by the rams, for many the show year is ending ~ for the Schmitz' and Schlatter's it's just beginning...again.

7.8.13

218/365 Laundry.

"Mom, laundry is like ping-pong. You wash it and send it to us, then we get it dirty and send it back."  Thanks Ben.

6.8.13

217/365 Thank-You Notes.

Team Schlatter was having thank-you note day.  Briana-Sue said, "I don't think other kids have to do this."  Mom said, "I know, but you do!"  Very thankful for all the sponsors at the Henry County Fair, and all the family and friends who helped us this year.

5.8.13

216/365 Grandma Wanda.

Team Schlatter had the privilege of  helping Grandma Wanda celebrate her 90th birthday on Sunday with many other family and friends.  We opened gifts and cards on her front porch after the party where I snapped this great photo of Briana-Sue, Grandma Wanda, Bryce, and Rachel.

4.8.13

215/365 Breakfast.

I think this is what you would call "breakfast in bed".  Walker didn't even want to come to his feet for his morning bottle.

214/365 Stierwalt.

Briana-Sue and Kirk Stierwalt, professional cattle expert, and Southeast Iowa Showdown's cattle clinic instructor and judge.  Briana-Sue knew he was a pretty big deal when she saw his picture on the side of the Weaver grooming supplies :)

2.8.13

213/365 Success.

Successful day in the barn, Walker learned to drink from the bottle!  Team Schlatter is blessed to have a cattle whisperer in the family, thank you Uncle Mike for your help.

1.8.13

212/365 Walker.

Who would adopt a little shorthorn steer, with a sun allergy, 8 days before the Iowa State Fair,
Team Schlatter!  One happy little girl to have a calf in the cooler.
